Guitar Chord Chart

Guitar Chord ChartOne of the most useful tools you can benefit from when you are beginning to learn guitar is a basic guitar chord chart. Having a good guitar chord chart at your fingertips will make it possible for you to learn any song that you might find the chord sheets for. You will want to make sure and find a chart that contains both basic guitar chords and also the more advanced chords that are often utilized in Jazz, Blues, and other such styles.

Most of the guitar chord charts that you will find online tend to leave a bit more to be desired.  They are either difficult to read, only have a limited selection of chords, or only show one or two voicing for each chord.  In reality there are a ton of combinations and voicings that can often help you to spice up a song a bit if you know how to play them.  One of the few places that I have been able to find a complete guitar chord chart is over at the JamPlay resources section.

Playing Guitar with an Online Metronome

Online MetronomeOne often overlooked aspect of playing guitar, especially to beginners, is keeping an even tempo and rhythm. There are a few ways to help you accomplish this. First, you can play along with a band that has a good drummer keeping the time and tempo for the band. This is also helpful in teaching you to be aware of the other instruments and vocals around you as well so that you become better at playing along with a band.

Don’t have a band to play along with?  Well, you could also play along with a recording of the song that you are practicing if you are practicing a song. This is a great technique for learning a new song and keeping the proper time and tempo.  But what if you are just practicing scales or a simple chord pattern?

Free Live Guitar Lessons and Guitar Phone App

Live Guitar LessonsToday I wanted to share with you a few FREE resources to use while learning how to play guitar that I recently came across on the Learn and Master Guitar site.  Did you know that they offer free live guitar lessons every Tuesday night at 7PM CST through the power of streaming video?  I just discovered this earlier this week and decided to drop in for one of their lessons on how to play guitar.  I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted with the face of Steve Krenz himself (the instructor of Learn and Master Guitar) instead of some other Legacy Learning Systems staff member.  He was actually there taking questions, giving tips and tricks, and just having a good time talking to all of us.  Right away I could see he has a passion for teaching and talking all things guitar.  I chimed in and asked a few questions by joining the chat room and he was very helpful.  His session was dedicated to beginners and he also agreed to cover more topics on how to play guitar in the future based on what people in the Gibson’s Learn and Master Guitar forum say they want to learn.
